How KYC/Identity Verification Works

One-time. Required. Fast.

KYC (Know Your Customer) is Topstep's identity verification process. It's required before your second purchase and takes only minutes to complete. Your information is stored on an encrypted server with Topstep's verification partner, Veriff.


When Is KYC Required?

After your first purchase, you'll receive an email when it's time to verify. You'll also see a banner on your Topstep Dashboard. You can still log in and trade during this time, but no additional purchases — new accounts, Resets, etc. — will be processed until KYC is complete.


What You Need

  • A valid, unexpired original physical government-issued ID: Passport, Driver's License, or National ID card

  • A device with a camera (phone or computer)

Not accepted: photocopies, images displayed on another screen, or IDs with sticky notes or coverings.


How to Complete KYC

  1. Prepare your unexpired, physical ID

  2. Open the secure link or QR code from your KYC email

  3. Take clear photos of your ID (front and back where applicable)

  4. Take a selfie

  5. Submit

Once complete, your account status updates to Verification Complete. KYC is a one-time process.


Troubleshooting

If you're having issues:

  • Try a different browser (Chrome, Safari) or a different device

  • Clear your browser's cache and cookies, then restart your device

  • Make sure camera and microphone access are enabled

  • Confirm your ID is unexpired and a physical document (not a photocopy)

  • Resubmit using the secure link or QR code from your email

  • Avoid using VPNs or VPS — location discrepancies can cause verification issues

  • Ensure your device's time zone and location settings are accurate

FAQ

Why am I being asked to verify again?

Topstep or Veriff may request re-verification if a prior submission needs clarification. Respond promptly and provide the required documents.

Can I trade while waiting to complete KYC?

Yes. You can still log in and trade. However, no additional purchases will be processed until verification is complete.

How long does verification take?

It should take a few minutes if your ID is ready and in good condition.

It says my account is locked. What do I do?
